You Wanted to Know: Dietetics Degree

If you are new to the blog then you may or may not know that I am majoring in Dietetics.

I came into college with a major in Family Consumer Science Education. I was going to be a Home Economics teacher and a coach. But then I took a Sports Nutrition class my second semester of school and fell in love with it. So I switched my major.

What am I going to do with my Dietetics Degree you ask?

I want to either be a sports dietitian or work with those with eating disorders. But as we all know, these both can go hand in hand, especially in long distance running, gymnastics, dance etc.

So here is my curriculum:

dieteticscourse1

dieteticscourse2

Then once you graduate you have to take part in an accredited internship for another year where you get hands on experience. Most internships also give you ~14 credit hours towards your masters. After your internship you take the RD exam and once you pass it, you are a Registered Dietitian!!

I will most likely go towards my CSSD which is The Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics

This takes a lot of work and the requirements are:

Eligibility requirements for the specialty exam include current RD status, maintenance of RD status for two years, and 1,500 hours of experience in specialty practice.

My dream job would be to work here:

So that is what I plan to do with my degree! 😀
